Fox Hollow does it again!!! FHB wins 4-2 in come from behind fashion. After a late kickoff, fox hollow struggled to find momentum in the first half of the game against Vikings SC. Right from the start Vikings SC was ready for the challenge of facing top ranked FHB.
John Thuet made a great save right from the kick off, as a viking player sent a shot from midfield to test the keeper and it nearly paid off. John made a great save to give up a corner. A few minutes later Vikings found the back of the net to go up 1-0. FHB had some good possesion going on in the first half, and were able to challenge the keep on several occasions but, were unable to capitalize.
The sound of the whistle caught FHB offguard, not because we don't what they sound like, but because we thought it was early, and it was. The ref decided to end the first half 5 minutes early because the game got underway laeter than expected due to lack of players from vikings not having enough players on time. After some arguing with the ref at halftime,Coach Julio got us together and made some strategic adjustments to
3-3-1-3, which we have never played before. I personally thought it would be a mistake, because we were only down 1-0 and we had a lot of opportunities in the first half, and I was sure we would get more if we stuck with it. We began the 2nd half, and controlled the ball very well. 10-15 minutes into the 2nd half vikings had scored a 2nd goal to create some breathing room and FHB was down 2-0. Instead of getting down on ourselves and giving up, we knew that we were much better than this team, so we just needed to prove it.
Kris klingensmith converted on a free kick from 25 yards out to cut the deficit in half. FHB only trailed 2-1 with 25 mins left to play. A few minutes later Chris wade sent a free kick into the back of the net from about 35 yards out, easily the goal of the year so far. This shot was a rocket and the keeper had no shot at it. Lacking defensive players in this game, Coach Julio put Chris Wade, one of our strongest midfield players, in a fullback position for the majority of the 2nd half. He did a great job shutting down any hope that vikings players would have. The rest of our defense did a great job shutting down every scoring chance that the other team had.
After the Chris's goal the momentum shifted and FHB played some of the best soccer that I have seen in a long time. After that, the question wasn't are we going to score again, it was who was gonna score next. Next up was Brett Wade who made some great dribbiling moves and beat his defender, the keeper and the post to give us a 3-2 lead. Next was Michael Emmett, He collected the ball at midfield, dribbled to the top of the 18 yard box, where a defender waited for him, but that didn't seem to matter to Mike as he juked him and buried the final goal of the game.
Overall it was a great tactical decision on the part of our coach, and when this team really wants to play well, we can. I think this game is a tribute to how good of a team, players, and students of the game we all are. We played a formation that we have never played before and we were able to pick it up quickly and easily. We did all that facing a 2-0 deficit. We are our own enemies, meaning lets stay off the refs, other team, and fans and we will go far......
