On Wednesday Fox Hollow Brigade started their season with a friendly against Olympique Montreaux. O.M is regarded as the best amaetuer soccer orginization in the state of Utah. They have beaten the likes of UVU, Weber state, Utah state and last year lost narrowly to the U-21 Mexican national team. Yup the same team that drew against BYU last season. Although we did not play the premier level team, we did draw against their division 1 team. O.M's teams won both the premier and first division crowns last season.
The game was a tune up for both teams as the season gets kicked off in about 3 weeks. FHB armed with a new coach, new style, and some new players took the field and were not intiminated at all, both teams kept possesion of the ball pretty well. Although O.M controlled the tempo and ball for most of the game FHB was able to throw in some counter attacks that got the attention of the players on the other side line. O.M scored in the first half and FHB nearly tied it on a corner kick that was deflected in the box, and landed on the feet of forward Rusty Reese as he sent the shot over the crossbar. FHB evened it up in the second half off a corner kick. The game was very physicial and there were a lot of fouls being called. This was the kind of game that nobody wanted to lose, and thats what made it very fun. We had solid play throughout the game from our defense and midfield. John Thuet made an amazing save off of a one-time volley from an O.M player that would have given them the lead. John was playing his first game with FHB, as he was injured all last season, but steped up to play a big role as our back up keeper in this one. Our coach Julio was very helpful to us on the sidelines shouting instructions and making key subsitutions. All in all it was a fun way to start our season..
I was very impressed by our players' performance. Great effort from everyone!
